We come across stories of motivation frequently and some stick with us.
This story is one where a young girl fought against insurmountable odds and strove to pursue her higher education from the intervention area of CRY supported project, the Society for Rural Agriculturists and Mass Awareness (SRAMA) from Andhra Pradesh.
N. Samyuktha, hailing from a poor family in the Alamuru Mandal in the East Godavari district, faced challenges similar to what millions like her face on a daily basis. Her father, a construction labourer, keeps travelling tirelessly between various states to work. Her mother suffers from a chronic illness and is deaf, owing to which she cannot contribute towards the income of the household. This dire situation led Samyuktha’s aunt and grandmother to take up the responsibility of her education till Class 8.
In order to uplift a worsening situation, SRAMA took the initiative to assist Samyuktha in pursuing her higher education. Despite various familial obstacles, Samyuktha completed Class 9 and with the motivation of the SRAMA, was accepted into Class 10.
Despite facing obstacles at every step, Samyuktha, a bright student, performed well in her studies. In order to inspire more children to join school, she became a member of the Children’s Collective by SRAMA and actively participated in all their activities. The Children’s Collective is a safe and open platform for kids in the village to come and voice out their opinions and thoughts about various issues, and discuss their dreams and aspirations. A natural leader, Samyuktha took up the responsibility to facilitate meaningful discussions among all the collective’s members, focusing on different child rights issues.
Samyuktha, in an attempt to do her part for the community, also participated in the special classes, which helped her further in understanding the subject matter. With the help of these special classes, her preparation for Class 10 examinations was excellent, where she achieved a brilliant 9.5 GPA in the finals.
SRAMA offers career guidance to students interested in pursuing higher education to motivate them to study further. SRAMA’s assistance helped Samyuktha understand her interest in the sciences, and inspired her to join the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT). Thanks to her high GPA in the Class 10 examinations, she secured a seat in the computer engineering course at IIIT, Nuzvid, Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh, in July 2016.
In the future, this bright, young girl would like to become a successful computer engineer.
